Marissa Bowen, of Kearns, Utah, got out of her car to help the dogs and told KSL-TV at first they were friendly.
“They were licking my hands. I scratched their heads and said, ‘Good doggies,'” Bowen told KSL-TV. “(But then) they full-on started biting me, and then they got me to the ground and started dragging me.”
Bowen hurt her feet, legs and arms before things got worse, according to Fox 13 News.
The dogs attacked her head, but a bus driver pulled over and helped distract the dogs enough for her to get on the bus. RECOMMENDED VIDEO We apologize, but this video has failed to load. Try refreshing your browser, ortap here to see other videos from our team.
Nick Pappas, the driver, got her inside, but Bowen said the dogs were in a frenzy and started attacking the bus, even ripping off one of the windshield wipers.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to pay for doctor and hospital bills.
On Wednesday, the Utah Transit Authority honored Pappas as a community hero for saving Marissa’s life.
It’s unclear what happened to the dogs after authorities captured them.
